Today, CBS and the Golden Globes® announced that acclaimed Golden Globe, Grammy® and Emmy®-nominated comedian and actress Nikki Glaser is set return as host of the 83rd ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBES®, the first major award show of the season, airing January 2026 on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.*

The third and final day of the SHE Media Co-Lab at SXSW closed out with Chelsea Handler, who brought humor and unfiltered honesty to the stage. Handler shared a candid mix of personal stories and career reflections, focusing on themes of self-reliance, resilience, and empowerment. She discussed a transformative experience following a career-defining failure and how it shaped her path to success. Handler spoke about her decision to remain childless by choice, loving her body at 50, and the importance of embracing joy despite political turmoil.

The day also featured a powerful panel with Naomi Watts, who spoke about sex, intimacy, and relationship dynamics in midlife, and what led her to create menopause beauty and wellness brand, Stripes. Christy Turlington Burns shared her passion for reproductive rights and improving global maternal health through her organization, Every Mother Counts.

SHEMedia’s three-day activation at SXSW drew over 6,000 visitors, with linesforming outside the venue, highlighting the strong demand for criticalconversations on women’s health. The interest and engagement in these issues atSXSW, renowned for its focus on innovation and cultural impact, underscored thegrowing importance of advocacy for women’s health and marked a pivotal momentfor these discussions on a global stage.

Key Quotes from Chelsea Handler:

On being childless by choice: “People think that sinceI don't want children that I hate them. I don't hate children. …I have a lot of children in my life, and I actually have a lot of bandwidth for children because I don't have my own children. So, if I had my own children, I'd probably be a lot more centered on that, but I'm able to give out a lot, and I'm able to make contributions in a bigger way because of being freed up in that way.”

On self-reliance: “I have enough data to show me I'm the one who got me this far. ‘I've got you,’ like, that's what I say to myself all the time. ‘I've got you.’ And I think for me, it's always staying in touch with kind of the little girl. This is what my book opens with as a chapter to my older self as a younger girl, of the kind of woman that I wanted to become like, how did I see myself being in this world? I wanted to be strong. I wanted to be independent. I didn't want to rely on anyone for my money. I wanted to be someone who stood up for something. …And I wanted to show up for people, and so connecting in a helpful way to that essence of who you are as a child, who you are, before the world shits on you and you get your heart broken and you get disappointed. …It's your job to bring her along the way and make sure you don't forget who you are.” 

On an early career disappointment at the Montreal ComedyFestival: “I bombed so badly at the Montreal Comedy Festival the first year I was there, I was like, 27 or 28 years old, I think, … and I ate it big time, and I thought my life was over. Zach Galifianakis walked me to my hotel room and said, ‘You should be alone now. No one can help you.’ Not in a mean way, just like I can't make you feel better. Just deal with this disaster.…Like that was my big break, and I sat in my hotel room and I cried. …I blew my opportunity, and then, literally, 72 hours later, I got another chance to do that set in front of the one executive that didn't see me take it in Montreal, and her name is Grace Wu, and she worked at NBC, and gave me a development deal for my own TV show. So, within 72 hours of me having the biggest disappointment of my professional career, at that time, I had the biggest high of my professional career, 72 hours later. And that is a story that I want everyone to remember. When something goes badly, there are rainbows coming your way always. …I think every failure gets you closer to success.”

 

On the pressure to conform and being true to oneself despite judgment: “Do you know how many people have told me to stop talking about drugs and alcohol publicly in my life professionally, people have been like, ‘Chelsea, can you simmer down? …No brands are going to want to do deals with you. I'm like, ‘There's a million other stories to tell. I'm an incredible skier. I look incredible. I'm successful. I have all these books. I have all these shows. What are you talking about? Tell another story.’ So, I switched agencies, and guess what? I have tons of brand deals. …So, we all need to broaden our thinking a lot around that area, and we are all too judgmental.”

 

On having her best body at 50: “I have the body I wanted when I was 20, and I’m 50. So everyone, you have something to look forward to. It all comes together in your 40s and 50s.”

 

On the new Trump presidency: “I went through a lot of darkness and pain and ugliness during the last time we had this President. I'm not doing that again. You don’t get to steal my joy, you don’t get to steal my happiness.”

Today, Rolling Stone released the first of four covers of its highly anticipated Future of Music issue, starring Benson Boone. Senior Writer Brian Hiatt visited the 22-year-old singer at his home in Utah to delve into the mind of the young superstar as he puts the finishing touches on a new album, tentatively titled American Heart. Boone, whose “Beautiful Things” was the biggest song in the world last year, gave the most in-depth and revealing interview of his career so far, opening up about everything from faith to body-image issues to opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour.

Today, Rolling Stone announced its return to South by Southwest® (SXSW®) in Austin, TX, with its highly anticipated third-annual Future of Music showcase, presented by JBL. Quickly established as a marquee showcase of the SXSW music festival, the four-night concert series will celebrate the trailblazing artists shaping the music of tomorrow. The Future of Music showcase will take place at ACL Live at the Moody Theater and feature performances from Benson Boone, Megan Moroney, Ivan Cornejo, Rema, and many more, kicking off Tuesday, March 11 and running through Friday, March 14.

The winner, Duplexity, will kick off the Future of Music showcase on Tuesday, March 11.

The Future of Music showcase is open to all SXSW badge holders and the public. Please note that badge holders will receive priority admission, and the general public will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates open daily at 6:15 PM, with doors opening at 6:45 PM.

NEW YORK, NY AUGUST 18, 2020: Penske Media Corporation (PMC)’s Fairchild Media today announced the appointment of Amanda Smith to President. In Smith’s new role, she will lead sales, marketing, live media and business operations across Fairchild’s WWD, Footwear News, Sourcing Journal and Beauty Inc. Smith’s appointment is part of a strategic shift that will for the first time bring all of PMC’s leading fashion brands under a single leadership and growth strategy. Smith will oversee all revenue streams including advertising, events, subscriptions, and ecommerce and she will directly manage the sales and marketing teams across WWD, FN and Beauty Inc as well as all live media and branded content across Fairchild Media. She will join Fairchild in September, reporting to PMC’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Operations Tom Finn.

She specialized in developing strategies for new opportunities, innovations and first-to-market programs and her work resulted in exceeded revenue goals and increased profitability for the business. Prior to Fast Company, Smith was Head of Sales at Condé Nast Traveler and Associate Publisher for Luxury for T Magazine at The New York Times. She’s also worked at Vogue and The Wall Street Journal.

LOS ANGELES, CA AUGUST 11, 2020: Penske Media Corporation (PMC) today announced the appointment of Paul Rainey to Executive Vice President of Operations and Finance. In Rainey’s new role, he will work across PMC’s portfolio of award-wining brands, which includes Rolling Stone, Variety, Robb Report, SHE Media, Deadline, ARTnews and WWD. He will be based in PMC’s LA office.

“We are very fortunate to have found someone of Paul Rainey’s caliber and experience to lead a core group of the Penske Media brands,” said PMC Chairman and CEO Jay Penske, to whom Rainey will report. “Paul’s wide breadth of expertise in finance and operations will continue to help us thoughtfully scale our businesses for the long-term.”

An accomplished senior executive with over 20 years of financial leadership experience across multiple verticals, Rainey will play a senior leadership role at PMC in all operation and financial decision-making affecting the various operating companies that will report into him. He will provide strategic financial input to senior management across corporate as well as across various lines of business, including the development and implementation of operational and financial procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of PMC and its leading media brands. He will also guide acquisitions and investments.

Rainey’s experience includes regulatory compliance, capital markets, financial planning and analysis, communication, business growth and all aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Global Eagle Entertainment, a public company in the entertainment and satellite communications industry, where, under his leadership, the company secured a $150 million private equity investment. Prior to that, Paul was Chief Financial Officer of Harris CapRock Communications, where he led the successful sale of that business for $425 million. Before joining Harris CapRock Communications, Paul held several financial leadership roles with increasing responsibilities spanning 15 years with the General Electric Company including CFO of GE Lighting Professional Solutions and their Power Equipment business.

Rainey holds a Master of Science in Accountancy and a BBA in Finance and Computer Applications from the University of Notre Dame where he graduated cum laude. Rainey additionally walked-on the Notre Dame basketball team after receiving an academic scholarship, only to become the team captain in his senior year at Notre Dame.  He is also Black Belt Six Sigma certified. He will be working from the Los Angeles headquarters of Penske Media.

Tara Donaldson, currently editorial director of Sourcing Journal, has been named an Executive Editor, WWD and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Fairchild Media. In her new role, she will help guide diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across Fairchild Media. With this transition, Peter Sadera has been appointed editor in chief of Sourcing Journal.

Donaldson joined Sourcing Journal in September 2013, prior to which she was a Community Editor at Tripfilms, as well as a freelance writer and merchandiser at two leading apparel companies. She has a bachelor of arts degree from California State University and a master’s degree from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. She also is the founder of The Diversity List, which highlights ethnic and gender diversity at 100 leading fashion companies.

In her new roles, Donaldson will help guide a global digital-first WWD newsroom with a focus on collaboration for breaking news, high-quality editorial contributions to Fairchild Media Live events, and an innovative and sustainable DEI strategy.

May 8, 2020 (New York, NY) — Today, at 7pm ET, in a round of virtual applause, Penske Media Corporation (PMC) launched “Hail the Heroes,” a thank you initiative to raise funds for Team Rubicon and their efforts around the COVID-19 crisis. Leaders from across PMC’s portfolio of media brands, including Rolling Stone, Variety, WWD, and Deadline, have joined together with luminaries in the entertainment, fashion, beauty, sports, music, and art industries to express a collective gratitude for those working on the frontlines of this pandemic. The video drives awareness and funds for Team Rubicon’s #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors initiative, which supports COVID-19 responses around the country. PMC has made a donation to Team Rubicon’s COVID-19 efforts, in addition to matching all PMC employee donations to this organization.

The coronavirus pandemic has created an unprecedented effect on the world, and PMC wants to do its part to acknowledge the incredible sacrifice and heroism shown by the healthcare workers, grocery store clerks, delivery people and other individuals on the frontlines of this crisis. PMC’s 20 brands and over 120 people in the industries they cover have put together a video expressing their gratitude. The video includes thank you messages from Sting, Billy Porter, Liam Payne, Julianne Moore, Tommy Hilfiger, Mark Cuban, Arianna Huffington, Tim Daly, Meghan McCain, Joel McHale, Abigail Breslin, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Sophia Bush, Ted Leonsis, Swizz Beatz, Julian Schnabel, Monsta X, Chloe x Halle, Lake Bell, Ty Burrell, Connie Britton, Kristin Chenoweth, Rob Riggle, Chloë Grace Moretz, Shaggy, and dozens of others.

PMC has partnered with Team Rubicon, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that utilizes the skills and experiences of military veterans and first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the organization launched the #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors initiative, providing volunteers, known as Greyshirts, the opportunity to perform safe individual acts of service to help vulnerable neighbors that may need support. Greyshirts are also providing assistance through food banks and delivery services to food-insecure populations, while helping with coordination and logistics to best support those in temporary quarantine.

Giving back is a core value at Penske Media Corporation and is at the crux of PMC Cares. Employees at PMC donate 2% of their time or income annually to non-profits in their communities.
