SXSW, the largest cultural event in the United States, today announced that Penske Media Corporation has transitioned from a majority stakeholder to full owner. The move represents a seamless evolution of a multi-year strategic partnership built on shared ambition, strong financial growth, and international expansion. SXSW will remain headquartered in Austin, where its flagship Conference & Festivals and SXSW EDU will continue to take place. SXSW 2027 runs March 15–21, preceded by SXSW EDU, March 13–16.

The partnership began in 2021, when PMC invested in SXSW following the severe financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing critical capital that helped secure the event’s future. Over the past several years, PMC and SXSW have worked together to strengthen the company’s long-term foundation, expand opportunities for programming, partnerships, and community building, and grow its global presence in Europe. SXSW will continue to be led from Austin, with a focus on preserving the deep community relationships that have long defined the event.

Founded by Roland Swenson, Nick Barbaro, Louis Jay Meyers and Louis Black, SXSW has played a central role in Austin’s evolution as an international destination for music, film, technology and the creative industries. Under their leadership, SXSW created a new model for bringing different industries and communities together and established a global event that remains deeply connected to its hometown.

“It's been a great joy and honor to help build this company from the ground up,” said Nick Barbaro, SXSW co-founder. “We could never have done this anywhere but Austin, and thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many talented people who’ve cared deeply about its purpose over the years, SXSW continues to impact the lives of countless artists and innovators around the world. It’s been a great ride and we look forward to watching SXSW continue to grow in vibrant new ways while remaining focused on helping creative people achieve their goals.”

"SXSW combines exceptional leadership and a proven playbook with a live event experience that is second to none." said Jay Penske, Chairman and CEO, Penske Media Corporation. “Premium live experiences are central to Penske Media’s future, and we are thrilled to increase our stake in SXSW, and provide the company with further backing and together write the most expansive chapter in its history."

The transaction reflects PMC’s continued investment in global live events that convene influential communities across entertainment, media, music, technology, fashion, art and culture. PMC’s portfolio of events and experiences already includes the Golden Globes, Latin Music Week, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and over 315 additional live experiences produced and built by PMC brands including Billboard, Rolling Stone, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, WWD and Sportico.

Since its founding in 1987, SXSW has grown from an Austin music event into an internationally recognized destination for discovery and connection across technology, film and television, music, education, comedy, culture and business. Each year, SXSW brings global creative and professional communities to Austin while providing a platform for the artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, and organizations that make the city distinctive.

Today, Dick Clark Productions (DCP), the world’s largest owner and producer of televised live event entertainment programming, announced the launch of DCP Studios, a new in-house division created to expand the company’s creative and production capabilities for its partners and talent across its rich portfolio of shows including: The Golden Globes, Dick Clark’s New Years’ Rockin’ Eve, Academy of Country Music Awards, American Music Awards and more. The DCP Studios team will also serve as the branded production studio for ambitious, portfolio-wide PMX brand partnerships.

As part of Penske Media Corporation’s recent acquisition of Vox Media, a team of creative and production leaders from the team formerly known as Vox Creative will join DCP to establish the company’s first-ever in-house DCP Studios division. Based in Los Angeles and New York, DCP Studios will serve as an always-on branded content studio, creating and producing campaigns for partners and audiences across platforms including social, digital, podcasts, live experiences and premium video, while expanding DCP’s ability to deliver sustained storytelling, deeper audience engagement and a broader range of creative services throughout the year.

Yosef Johnson will helm the new division, bringing more than 15 years of experience across branded content, creative strategy and production. Most recently SVP and Head of Vox Creative, Vox Media’s award-winning in-house brand studio, Johnson oversaw creative development, strategy, client management and experiential and branded content production for advertisers. Throughout his career, Johnson has led the development of cross-platform campaigns, purpose-driven documentaries, podcasts, written features, audio campaigns and social-first storytelling, with prior leadership roles at Group Nine Media, NowThis, and Wieden+Kennedy New York, where he worked across brands including Nike, Jordan Brand, and ESPN.

“I’m thrilled to bring this extraordinary team into DCP and have the opportunity to build exciting new partnerships with advertisers, rooted in the iconic legacy and live entertainment of both DCP and the expanding portfolio at PMX,” said Johnson, Head of DCP Studios. “We’re excited to create rich, enduring stories around powerful IP, franchises and longstanding talent relationships, and to help our brand partners show up in ways that are culturally resonant, creatively ambitious and built for every platform where audiences engage.”

“DCP Studios expands our ability to tell a wider array of stories for partners and audiences across every platform, while also allowing us to offer a broader range of creative services through an always-on studio model,” said Mike Chuthakieo, Chief Commercial Officer, Dick Clark Productions.

Vox Creative has been a trusted brand content studio for more than a decade and is a multi-year winner of Digiday’s Best Branded Content Studio. The incoming team has created award-winning work for hundreds of advertisers, across social, podcasts, live experiences, premium video, and documentaries. Most recently, timed to the World Cup, the team released Soccer Meets America, in association with Verizon, a docuseries that premiered on Roku as part of an integrated campaign featuring social IRL moments, fan-focused screenings, and editorial storytelling.

Los Angeles, CA - April 6, 2026 - Today, CBS and Dick Clark Productions (DCP), the world’s largest owner and producer of televised live event entertainment programming, announced that Grammy® award-winning musician, critically acclaimed Emmy and Golden Globe®-winning and Academy Award®-nominated actress and producer Queen Latifah will host the 52nd American Music Awards (AMAs). Queen Latifah has a longstanding history with the AMAs, previously serving as a co-host in 1995, and delivering memorable performances in the years since.

As one of music’s most anticipated nights of the year, the 52nd American Music Awards returns to CBS and Paramount+ on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 from the world-renowned MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the largest venue in the show’s history, to honor the most influential artists and songs of today alongside unforgettable performances and special moments in a multi-genre, cross-generational celebration of music.

Tickets for the star-studded must-see show are now available on AXS

“I am so excited to return to the American Music Awards stage to host this year,” said Latifah. “It’s been an incredible year for music and there is no better place to celebrate than in Vegas.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Queen Latifah back as host of the American Music Awards,” said Jay Penske, CEO, Dick Clark Productions. “A true powerhouse and trailblazer, she brings a dynamic presence and deep connection to both fans and fellow artists, making her the perfect choice to lead a night celebrating the biggest names and most defining moments in music.”

Queen Latifah is a Grammy-winning artist and Oscar-nominated actress whose career spans music, film, television, and production. She earned an Academy Award nomination, along with Golden Globe and SAG nominations, for her role as “Mama Morton” in Chicago, and won both a Golden Globe and SAG Award for Life Support. A trailblazer in entertainment, she became the first hip-hop artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 and has received seven Grammy nominations, winning Best Rap Solo Performance in 1994. Her cultural impact was further recognized with the National Medal of the Arts in 2024 and honors at the 2023 Kennedy Center Honors. Beyond acting, she has built a successful production career through Flavor Unit Entertainment, producing films and television projects including Bessie and The Perfect Holiday.

Making her big screen debut in Spike Lee’s 1991 film, Jungle Fever, Latifah then starred in Set It Off and co-starred with Holly Hunter and Danny DeVito in the critically acclaimed Living Out Loud. From 1993-1998, Latifah starred in the network comedy “Living Single.” Following Chicago, she starred in and executive-produced the box office hit Bringing Down the House. Her additional film credits include The Secret Life of Bees, alongside Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Dakota Fanning; Neil Meron and Craig Zadan’s Hairspray; Mad Money opposite Diane Keaton and Katie Holmes; Just Wright; Joyful Noise; The Last Holiday; Beauty Shop; Girls Trip alongside Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish; and Hustle opposite Adam Sandler. She took to the stage and small screen performing as the title character in the television musical The Wiz Live! and as “Ursula” in ABC’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

In recent years, Latifah headlined and executive produced CBS’ “The Equalizer,” which became the #1 new series in the 2020-2021 season. Looking ahead, she is set to reprise her role as “Ellie” in Ice Age: Boiling Point, continuing her long-running involvement in the popular animated franchise.

Nominations for the 52nd American Music Awards will be announced on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Fan voting opens the same day, April 14, and will remain open until May 8, 2026.

Additional details, including performers, presenters, and special honorees for the 52nd AMAs, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The CBS broadcast marked the show’s largest audience since 2019 with a +38% increase over its last live airing in 2022 on ABC.

Airing for the first time on Memorial Day, the 2025 AMAs kicked off summer with host Jennifer Lopez, who returned to host a decade after her AMAs hosting debut in 2015. She opened the 51st American Music Awards in spectacular fashion, delivering a non-stop, breathtaking medley of 23 of the year’s biggest hits.
