Mr. Armani will be recognized at WWD’s 2019 Apparel + Retail CEO Summit
NEW YORK (June 3, 2019) – Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), the leading source of news and insights for the fashion, retail and beauty industries, is pleased to reveal Giorgio Armani as this year’s prestigious John B. Fairchild Honoree.
“John B. Fairchild was a visionary, a pioneer that left behind a lasting mark on the history of journalism, revolutionizing the way fashion is portrayed. I’m honoured to receive this prestigious award bearing his name, in recognition of my work as entrepreneur and creative designer. A job that thrills me today as it did the first day, because it gives me the opportunity to express myself by creating something new every time,” said Mr. Giorgio Armani, Founder and Chairman of Giorgio Armani.
Mr. Armani, the chairman of his namesake privately held company citing revenues of 2 billion euros, is to be recognized in front of more than 250+ c-level executives on the opening night of the WWD Apparel + Retail CEO Summit on October 29.
“There are few designers who one can say truly changed the way women and men dress, and Giorgio Armani is among them,” said James Fallon, editorial director of WWD. “Mr. Armani’s signature minimalism is iconic worldwide and he continues to define and lead the fashion world today. Simply saying the word ‘Armani’ immediately conjures up an image of refined style that now stretches from not only fashion but to furniture, hotels, residences, food and even chocolate. Mr. Fairchild always considered Giorgio Armani one of his few designer ‘greats,’ and his status in the fashion pantheon is evidenced by the name everyone calls him: The Maestro.”
Previous John B. Fairchild honorees include Leonard Lauder, the late Karl Lagerfeld, and Ralph Lauren.
Other honors to be presented that night will include Creative Leadership; Women’s Wear and Men’s Wear Designers of the Year; Corporate Citizenship; Company of the Year, Large Market Cap, in each category of fashion, retail and beauty, and Company of the Year, Small Market Cap, in fashion, retail and beauty.
Companies are invited to make submissions for each of the awards, which have metrics related to each. The Women’s and Men’s Wear Designers of the Year are being chosen via a poll of key retailers worldwide, as well as WWD’s global staff. The Creative Leadership Honor will be presented to the senior industry executive who has lead his or her company to strong financial growth over the last three to five years; demonstrated groundbreaking strategic thinking, and has created a corporate atmosphere that makes his or her company a valued place to work.
The Companies of the Year in each sector – fashion, retail and beauty – will be judged on financial performance over the last 12 months in terms of EBITDA and sales growth, as well as share price performance. Finally, the Corporate Citizenship Honor will be based on key metrics in terms of social responsibility; sustainability, and charitable contributions.
